Tasting Note
Grape
Syrah (aka Shiraz) is a red grape that produces different styles dependent on climate. The cooler climate Syrah style prevails in the Northern Rhône and other coolish areas of the New World producing intensely perfumed wines with medium acidity, firm tannin and complex flavour profiles with notes of violet, new leather, smoke and blackberry.

Region
Côte-Rôtie is one of the most famous of the northern Rhône appellations, with some single vineyard cuvées now selling for the same prices as First Growth Bordeaux. The appellation covers 500 hectares, with nearly 60 official vineyards. The wines are made from Syrah, however up to 20 percent of Viognier can be used, adding finesse, elegance and floral characteristics to the wine.
Food Pairing
Good balance and acidity makes Syrah a good partner to steak, game and mature hard cheeses.
