Description
Description
Good Beaujolais like this should be soft, silky and moreishly quaffable. This wine has floral perfume allied to soft red berry fruits. Great with soft cheeses, charcuterie and coq au vin. Unlike most reds this can be served chilled.
Grape
Gamay is a thin skinned red variety that produces soft and juicy wines that are light in body with medium acidity and strawberry, cherry, raspberry and floral character.
Producer
Domaine Didier Desvignes is situated in the hamlet of Saint-Joseph, in the heart of the Beaujolais appellation of Morgon. The Desvignes have been making wine in the region for 100 years and Didier began helping his father at the age of 11. In 1981 he purchased a few hectares of land in Saint-Joseph and began to make his own wines. The estate is farmed organically.
Region
Fleurie is one of the 10 superior crus or villages within the region of Beaujolais, which has Burgundy to the north and the Rhône to the south. The region makes mostly light reds from Gamay. Fleurie produces wines noted for their floral character and silky texture.
Food Pairing
Gamay wines are delicious with or without food, but thanks to low tannins, fair acidity and light weight can work with a wide variety of dishes including charcuterie, creamy cheeses, chicken and fish dishes. Unlike most reds Gamay can also be served cold.
