Description
Campogiovanni Brunello di Montalcino Il Quercione, Tuscany 2018 – 93/100 (Vinous)
From a 2.5 ha plot of very low yielding 35 year old vines, produced only in the best vintages. This is exceptional by any standards, with depth, richness and complexity in equal measure and a level of finesse rarely found in Brunello.
San Felice Pugnitello, Tuscany 2019 – 92/100 (Vinous)
Intriguing and classy Super Tuscan, smoky and black-fruited with great aromatic complexity. From the ancient Pugnitello variety, native to Tuscany, and rediscovered by San Felice – the first to recognise its potential and still regarded its foremost producer.
San Felice Vigorello, Tuscany 2018 – 93/100 (Vinous)
Vigorello has the distinction of being the first ever ‘Super Tuscan’ produced in Chianti Classico – the first vintage being 1968. Since then the blend may have changed (from its initial 100% Sangiovese) but it’s character and quality remain the same.
Prà Morandina Amarone della Valpolicella, Veneto 2017 – 94/100 (Vinous)
A restrained, distinctively dry style of Amarone of unusual purity with sublime aromas and a powerful, complex palate.
Poderi Colla Dardi le Rose Barolo Bussi, Piedmont 2019 – 95/100 (Vinous)
This fine and classic, single vineyard, Barolo is a testament to the Colla family’s Dardi le Rose site on the slopes of the Bussia hill – one of the best for the production of full-bodied Barolo with the potential to age.
Marchesi di Gressy Barbaresco Riserva Martinenga Gaiun, Piedmont 2019 – 94/100 (Vinous)
Marchesi di Grésy impresses with wines that emphasize elegance above all else. The Barbarescos will especially appeal to readers who prize finely sketched, nuanced wines. One recent development is that the Barbaresco Gaiun has become a Riserva and will now be released alongside the Camp Gros two years after the Martinenga bottling.
