Description
Tasting Note
A zesty, mineral white that blends Albarino, Loureira and Canaio Blanco grapes from the O Rosal district of Galicia. Excellent with shellfish and fish.
Grape
Albariño is considered to be the best Spanish white variety and finds its greatest expression in Galicia where it produces rich, oily wines balanced by firm acidity with notes of peach, apricot and almonds.
Producer
Founded in 1990, this is one the best properties in Rías Baixas situated in the O Rosal valley. The vineyard are sheltered by forest and temperatures are moderated by the sea and nearby River Minho. This microclimate helps produce exceptionally healthy, ripe and aromatic grapes with minimal use of chemicals and pesticides. They recently established Bodegas Pittacum in Bierzo which focusses on red wines.
Region
Rias Baixas is a sub region of Galicia in north-west Spain. The proximity to the Atlantic brings coolness and high rainfall and the area is sometimes referred to as Green Spain. Wines are accordingly fresh and light with good acidity. Albariñio is the most important grape, but Godello (white) and Mencia (red) are also grown.
Food Pairing
With fine acidity and structure Albariño is a versatile food wine working well with rich shellfish and fish dishes, white meats and Spanish rice dishes like arroz negro or paella.
