Description
Description
An affordable wine from the super-premium Priorat region. Les Crestes is a blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Carignan and 10% Syrah aged for eight months in two-year-old French barrels. The wine is unfiltered with wonderfully bright, wild berry fruit flavors, balanced acidity and supple tannins. Serve with venison or rustic stews.
Grape
GSM or Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre is a blend of three grapes made famous by Châteauneuf du Pape, but now widely emulated all over the world. Grenache brings hot strawberries, Syrah blackberry and leather and Mourvedre a distinctive gamey character. The style is always full bodied with high levels of alcohol and tannin.
Producer
This small winery located in the village of Poboleda was established in 1998 by the Doix and Llagostera families. Poboleda is one of the highest and coolest villages in Priorat. The dry cold northwestern winds determine the wine’s high acidity and a slow ripening cycle. Mas Doix owns 20 hectares of vineyards, which includes a 4 hectare plot with 100 year old Carignan and Grenache vines.
Region
Priorat is a small, dynamic wine region in Catalonia, north-eastern Spain, whose intense, full-bodied red wines have shot to fame in the past few decades. The classic Priorat wine is made from old-vine Grenache and Carignan, and has concentrated aromas of licorice, tar and brandied cherries.
Food Pairing
GSM blends are often powerful and low in acidity so require equally robust foods such as game, grilled meat and mature hard and washed rind cheeses.
