Description
Description
This lovely Moscato has soft notes of melon, orange peel and sage on the nose with a light effervescence. Perfect with fruit desserts and great with chocolate.
Grape
Muscat is an aromatic white grape variety which is most often used to make sweet wines. In Piedmont and now in other parts of the world they make sparkling Moscato by trapping the Carbon Dioxide produced during the first fermentation (rather than the second fermentation for most sparkling wines like Champagne. The fermentation is stopped before all the sugar is turned to alcohol leaving a high level of grape sugar in the wine. Most sparkling Moscatos are frothy (rather than fizzy) with intense grape and floral notes on the nose and luscious sweetness on the palate.
Producer
Azienda Bera produces wine from grapes ripened in the family vineyards situated in Sant’Antonio di Canelli, Regione Serra Masio, the heart of the most prestigious and oldest area of Moscato d’Asti production. The vineyards are cultivated using organic production methods, chemical fertilisers, herbicides, insecticides and pesticides are banned in favour of humus and compost. Parasites are successfully discouraged using copper sulphate and powdered sulphur, and a healthy ecosystem is encouraged – in fact they have an abundance of snails which is proof of a harmonious environmental balance!
Region
Moscato d’Asti is a DOCG sparkling white wine made from the Moscato Bianco grape and produced mainly in the province of Asti, northwest Italy. The wine is sweet and low in alcohol, and is considered a dessert wine.
Tasting Note
Light, frothy and very sweet, Sparkling Moscato is a very versatile pudding wine that pairs well with fruit desserts, mousses, creamy desserts such as pannacotta. They also work extremely well with white and milk chocolate desserts.
