Description
The Réserve de Gassac Rosé is produced in the Languedoc, but made very much in the lighter Provençal style. Made from a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Carignan, it has a pale pink hue and brims with fresh strawberry, cherry and redcurrant character. Great on its own or with Chinese food.
Grape
GSM or Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre is a blend of three grapes made famous by Châteauneuf du Pape, but now widely emulated all over the world. Grenache brings hot strawberries, Syrah blackberry and leather and Mourvedre a distinctive gamey character. The style is always full bodied with high levels of alcohol and tannin. GSM is rosé is produced all over southern France and is heavier and spicier than its Provencal counterpart.
Producer
Founded by the late Aimé Guibert in 1971, with his wife Véronique, Daumas Gassac has spent decades in the vanguard of a movement towards quality in a French region traditionally more associated with cheap table wines. Aimé broke from tradition by using grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon which are not permitted under French appellation law. Their flagship is an icon of southern French wine and was a starting point in the rebirth of the Languedoc-Roussillon region.
Region
The wines of Languedoc are experiencing an exciting renaissance. Having reinvented itself in recent decades by shifting its production focus to wines of truly high quality, the region has become one of the most dynamic in the country. Leading winemakers combined time-honored traditions with state-of-the art techniques to revitalize the region’s appellations, and their innovative vineyard and vinification practices have yielded a diverse range of terroir-driven wines, including the greatest percentage of organic wines in France.
Food Pairing
GSM rosés with good weight and spicy character can be delicious with grilled lamb or seared tuna steak.
