Producer
Chateau Batailley is a renowned winery located in Bordeaux’s Pauillac appellation in France. It is a 5th Grand Cru Classé according to the classification made in 1855. Château Batailley is one of the oldest estates in Pauillac – its name goes back to the last battle of the Hundred Years war in 1452, which took place on the plateau that descends to Château Latour. Today the vineyard extends over 57 hectares planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
Region
Pauillac is a famous Bordeaux appellation on the left bank of the Gironde estuary situated within the larger Médoc region. It is home to some of the world’s most famous and expensive red wines, wines made predominantly from Cabernet Sauvignon. The Pauillac style is full, rich, and characterized by the classic cassis and- edarwood aromas of oak-aged Cabernet Sauvignon. They are typically regarded as having the most powerful tannic structure of the Médoc communes, and are often capable of long ageing in the cellar.
Food Pairing
The perfect balance of acidity and sweetness with restrained flavours makes these wines fairly versatile matching well with red meats such as roast lamb or roast beef. Also excellent with hard cheese.
